March 2012 - Student Night

Speaker - Anna Ylijoki, IFT; Q&A with Professional Panel and Scholarship Awards

We had another great event this month – our annual student night meeting. We had a nice mix of students – both from UW-Madison and a group from UW-Stout – and professionals from around the state.  The evening started out with a presentation from Anna at IFT on the job market and some tips for writing a resume. We then had a panel of four professionals to talk about their experiences and answer questions from the students: Paul Groth from Sargento, Bill Wright from Food Ingredients, Chelsey Castrodale from ADM, and Fritz Buss from Nelson-Jameson. The students appreciated the opportunity to learn more from the professionals.

After the panel discussion, we awarded our 2012 scholarships:

-          Three undergraduate winners

o   Adam Bartling, a freshman at UW-Madison

o   Kristen Doster, a senior at UW-Madison

o   Katherine Moy, a junior at UW-Madison

-          Three graduate winners

o   Kendra Hendrickson, UW-Madison, MS Food Chemistry

o   Emily Leuer, UW-Stout, MS Food Science

o   Amanda King, UW-Madison, PhD Animal Science

Our ability to give so many scholarships, for a total of $10,500, is in large part due to the success of our annual golf outing and the generous sponsorship that we receive.  We’d like to thank those sponsors again for their generosity.

 February 2012 Dinner Meeting - Palermo's Pizza

Speakers - Giacomo (Jack) Fallucca, President and CEO, Palermo's Pizza and John Ruff, President-Elect IFT.

February Event Breaks Attendance Record!

A BIG thank you to all who were able to attend our record breaking February dinner meeting at Palermo’s Pizza in Milwaukee.  We’re happy to report that we had a total of 101 attendees which is the most in the Wisconsin sections history!  We hope this attendance record will set the bar for the remaining events in 2012.

Many thanks go out to our speakers, President and CEO of Palermo’s Jack Fallucca as well as Barb who gave the tour and our National IFT Chair-elect John Ruff.  Also a huge thank you goes out to Brian Bernier, café manager at Palermo’s, who coordinated our delicious meal.

We look forward to seeing you at Student Night!
